Asbestos Regulation in Poland
Regulation summary
Asbestos is fully prohibited in this country. All use, trade, import and manufacture of asbestos-containing materials is banned. Existing asbestos in buildings still requires certified professionals for safe removal and disposal.
Poland banned asbestos in 1997 through a national health decree, making it one of the first Central and Eastern European countries to prohibit asbestos. Poland had significant asbestos-cement production, with millions of tonnes of asbestos roofing and building products installed across the country, particularly in rural areas. The government adopted a national programme for the removal of asbestos, aiming to eliminate all asbestos-containing materials by 2032.
