What is asbestos awareness training?
Asbestos awareness training is a mandatory introductory course that teaches workers to identify materials that may contain asbestos, understand the associated health risks, and know when to stop work and contact a qualified professional. It is the minimum training level required by regulation in many countries for workers in occupations where accidental contact with asbestos-containing materials is possible.
The course does not qualify anyone to remove, repair, or sample asbestos. Its purpose is prevention: if a worker recognises a suspected ACM before disturbing it, they can stop, report it, and allow a licensed contractor to take over — avoiding the fiber release that causes disease.
